Why We Only Practice Elder Law

Stebner Gertler Guadagni & Kawamoto is unique in that our firm practices elder law exclusively. This was a conscious choice made by our founding attorney, Kathryn Stebner, who has litigated cases involving elder abuse and medical malpractice since 1985. In fact, she filed the first-ever elder abuse lawsuit in California history.

Kathryn’s passion for protecting senior citizens in San Francisco and across the Bay Area goes back to her childhood. She was very close to her grandmother while growing up and was partly raised by her grandparents. All of us at Stebner Gertler Guadagni & Kawamoto have had similar experiences with our families. We are proud to use the law to ensure that elderly people can live in dignity and find justice against their abusers. Our decades of experience in elder law, along with our talent and passion, is what allows us to effectively carry out our mission.

Unfortunately, thousands of vulnerable senior citizens are unable to advocate for their own physical safety and financial independence. Many have family members who try to protect them, but often well-meaning loved ones do not find out about the abuse until it has already been happening for months. We are here to be advocates for people who often need someone in their corner.

Besides our work in private practice, Stebner Gertler Guadagni & Kawamoto works to improve the standard of living for elderly people in California. Our lawyers work with members of the California State Legislature to write laws to improve licensing standards for long-term care facilities and their workers.
